:: Editing Finished ::

12th February 2009

I have just finished my editing and am currently waiting for the quick time movie to save... 6 hours time and it should be finished! As well as saving it, I have added a sepia tone and some noise effects to the piece to help age my movie.

Whilst my movie is saving I'm going to finish my sketch book and hopefully hand my project in at the end of the day.

:: Editing Continued ::

11th February 2009

Started to play around with transitions today and made good progress. I've got to grips with Final Cut pro now and am enjoying mucking about with the different effects and seeing what works. I have also bought some royalty free music and am glad with how it fits in within my piece. I think my film is pretty much finished, just need to touch up some of the scenes and add both a sepia and noise effect to my final piece.

:: Starting Editing ::

09th January 2009

Started my editing today. My main aim for the lesson was to get my footage into the correct sequence and also create my 'silent text' screens. I now have a better understanding of how the final piece will look and also what kind of length it will be.

Wednesdays plan is to add transitions and smooth the piece over.

:: Sketchbook - Continued ::

29th January 2009

Today I have made further progression within my sketchbook. I’m now at the stage where I just need to annotate certain things and stick in other bits. My plan for tomorrow is to shoot the extra pieces of film I need, create a visual storyboard and start looking for a music score that will be in keeping with the style of film that I wish to create, this should ideally leave me with just having to edit my piece together.

:: Storyboard ::

26th January 2009 :: Storyboard Hand-in Date ::

Today is the hand-in date for our storyboards. As my idea was so solid in my head, and I was quite thorough with my treatment, it enabled me with quite a clear idea of how I was going to storyboard it. I also feel that as I studied Media at school it has really given me a helping hand with things such as camera angles and storyboard techniques. See below for my storyboard, to enlarge image just click on it.

:: Sketchbook ::

22nd January 2009

Today, after our college trip to see 3Dmodelling I decided to make as much progression on my sketchbook as possible. I stayed for a few hours after the trip and did a bulk of both online research and library research on film and techniques. I feel that today has left me in a better position with the project and I have gained better knowledge on how I’m going to go about my project.

:: Treatment ::

19th January 2009 :: Treatment Hand-in Date ::

Today I handed in my first version of the treatment, if you want to see what my outline for my idea is then read on. Just so you know I’ve decided to go for the mask image.

---------------------------------

The short film will be portraying how facial expressions can solely reveal a person’s reaction and feelings to what is going on around them. The sequence will be using a set of masks with a range of facial expressions and take place on Brighton’s amusement pier. There will be a main character that will interact with an array of different scenarios and will focus largely on the face to revile the characters feelings. It will be a comic look into how, without words, you can tell exactly how the character is feeling.
The piece will start with shots of people holding hands, after a short time the camera will cut to a man on the beach wearing a mask with a sad expression. The scene will be moody and feature both close up and long shots. It will be a relatively slow scene as the opening will be trying to pull focus on the mask and his loneliness. Next the man will look up to the pier; the mask will have changed to a puzzled look. He will continue onto the pier and play various arcade games and ride the rollercoaster’s in an attempt to cheer himself up. It will be a comic scene as the masks expressions will be quite over the top and the way it will be filmed will be in a humorous way. To end the short film the man will sit down to play, ‘Dolphin Derby’ and just before the game starts a girl, with the same mask on, sits next to him. It ends with him winning the game and giving her the prize and they walk off hand in hand with the camera zooming in on their hands.
In regards to the sound I want the opening scene to feature sad violin music. The violin music will cut in and out of hardcore music when he’s on the rides. I also want the film to be largely filmed in sepia but, like the music, when he’s on the rides the shooting mode returns to regular shooting mode.
The film will be shot using a Canon mini DV camcorder. The footage will be shot in a regular shooting mode, with no effects or filters. All effects will be added in Final Cut Pro afterwards.
The short film will be targeted at a vast audience as the subject is so light hearted and is based on how our mind processes facial expressions to determine how others are feeling.
